The municipality of Moumour is characterised by the meeting of the two alluvial valleys of the Vert and the Gave d’Oloron.
Landscape and trails
The Forêt communale de Moumour covers 152.44 hectares in 26 plots and is subject to the French forestry regime. It is managed by the Office National des Forêts. Camgran is a four-hectare woodland with more than a hundred-year-old oak trees and is also a place for walks and picnics.
A section of the Voie verte is car-free from the edge of Oloron to the entrance to Moumour. The Voie verte to Moumour is a flat cycle ride without any particular difficulties.
Culture and history
The Pont de César is a 15th-century bridge spanning the Vert. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built at the end of the 12th century. It contains a protected collection of furnishings made entirely of painted and gilded wood; the altar is said to have come from Oloron Cathedral.
The Château de Lamothe dates from the 13th century and was formerly the summer residence of the bishops of Sainte-Marie. The former Chapelle Sainte-Hélène served as a pilgrims’ hospital and as the parish church for Moumour and the villages of the Josbaigt valley.

Getting around
The 22.5-kilometre stage of the GR® 78, the Voie de Piémont, from Oloron-Sainte-Marie to L'Hôpital-Saint-Blaise passes through Moumour.
Connections
The RD 936 provides Moumour’s road connection between Oloron and Peyrehorade. Regional bus route 808 runs three times a day in both directions from Monday to Friday between Oloron-Sainte-Marie and Mauléon, serving Moumour at the Héarot stop on the RD 936.
