Among the old architectural monuments of the two villages of Gotein and Libarrenx that have survived to the present day is the Château d’Arbide in Gotein. It is also listed on Route 6 – La Soule as the Maison Forte (Château) d’Arbide. The Château de Gotein was first mentioned in 1377 under the names La Salle and Jaureguiçahar. The Église à clocher trinitaire de Gotein has been classified as a historic monument since 1924.

Events

Abotia’s Xiru programme includes music, theatre, singing and visual arts, as well as workshops in Basque dance and Euskara. The 2026 Xiru Festival was the festival’s 36th edition.

The festival committee organises the festivities in the two districts of Gotein and Libarrenx, with concerts, balls, méchouis, serenades and card-game tournaments. The festival committee also organises qualifying rounds for the French Mus championship.

Nature

The Parcours santé leisure area is located on the Saison River in Gotein-Libarrenx and includes a fitness trail, children’s play areas and picnic tables. The Parcours artistique de Libarrenx in the vicinity of Gotein comprises a 1.7 km loop with information panels on the trees and sports equipment along the river.
