Briscous reveals its distinctive character in several very specific places: The parish church has galleries, while the Salines were among the region’s most important industries for a long time. A 20-kilometre pipeline directly connected the Salines with the salt baths of Biarritz. The town is also linked to the history of language: Joanes de Leizarraga, born in Briscous in 1506, translated the New Testament into Basque at the request of Jeanne d’Albret.

The Espace Culturel Bixintxo has an entrance hall for exhibitions of paintings, photographs and sculptures. The cultural centre also includes a library with numerous books and a patio. There is space there for music, theatre, dance, conferences and video screenings.

Nature

Along the D936, the voie verte between Bourg and Lokarri des Salines offers a protected 3-kilometre round trip. It is shared by pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorised road users.

The Ardanavy nature trail can be reached from Briscous via the Route des Crêtes. It follows a 3-kilometre circular route with information panels about fauna, flora and the natural habitats present. The Ardanavy circular routes can also be used with hybrid bikes or mountain bikes.

The forest of Briscous covers just under 190 hectares and can be explored on foot along its paths. Pedunculate oaks, ash trees and black alders grow in the Ardanavy massif of the forest. Animals found in the forest include roe deer, wild boar, squirrels, foxes, wood pigeons, bats, frogs and butterflies. Species found in the Barthes de l'Ardanavy area include the European otter, European eel, European pond turtle and black woodpecker.

Activities

The Lokarri sports complex in Briscous includes tennis courts, a football pitch, pétanque courts and frontons.

Karting Côte Basque is located in Briscous, directly at exit 4 of the A64. It offers adults and teenagers 270 cc go-karts on a 1,200-metre track. Suitable vehicles are provided for young drivers aged seven and over.

Local Products

The Anne Rozès canning workshop in Briscous has been producing preserved duck and pork products since 1970, including foie gras, duck rillettes, pâté with Espelette pepper and black pudding. By prior arrangement, the workshop offers tours of its premises.
