Gurmençon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
One of Gurmençon’s notable local landmarks is the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, a 19th-century church. Its painted fresco depicts the apostles and was rediscovered during restoration work from December 2007 to mid-April 2008. At the roundabout on the Route d’Espagne stands the monumental sculpture La Porte d’Aspe. This contemporary work, made from Arudy marble, explores the Way of St. James.
Culture
The 16th-century mill in Gurmençon is located below the château. It was used for milling, as well as for fulling cloth and papermaking. The seigneurial château in Gurmençon dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and is privately owned.
In Gurmençon, the Ferme de la Porte d’Aspe offers tours by prior appointment. The farm also produces raw-milk cow’s-milk cheeses, including Couronne Henri IV, Petit Gurmançon and Pouquets.
