Nature
Since 2007, Saint-Girons-en-Béarn has participated in the departmental “Villes et Villages Fleuris” competition. A fish-breeding reserve extends along the Lataillade stream from its source at Lafourcade to the Baigt-de-Béarn bridge at Moulin Lateoulère, opposite the Pisciculture de Saint-Girons-en-Béarn. La Gaule Puyolaise releases brown trout and rainbow trout.
Hiking
La Pignada is a 9.4 km circular hiking route in Saint-Girons-en-Béarn. It leads through maritime pine groves, oak forests, meadows and valleys bordered by streams. The route begins at the town hall car park, passes the church and then continues along the Lapeyrère route.
Culture and History
The municipality was formerly called Saint-Girons and adopted the name Saint-Girons-en-Béarn in July 2006. The parish church of Saint-Marcel was rebuilt in 1821–1822, replacing an older church in the cemetery below the village. It has a tower at the north-western corner of the nave.
The historical sites of Abbaye Saint-Jean-de-Sorde, Abbaye de Sauvelade, Abbaye de Pontaut and Château de Dax are located in the wider regional surroundings of Saint-Girons-en-Béarn.
