Mourenx: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Belvédère viewpoint on Mourenx’s interpretation trail offers panoramic views over Mourenx and the surrounding area. At the same time, the site tells an unusual story of its origins: Mourenx is a “new town” that was created in its entirety in 1957 to support the industrial development of the Lacq basin – a first in France.

Renting a holiday apartment can be part of your personal plans for a trip to Mourenx.

Town History

In spring 1957, Mourenx was designed by the architects Douillet, Maneval and Coulon. The town was conceived as an autonomous town rather than simply a commuter town, with its own administration and leisure facilities.

Culture

The Le MI[X] cultural centre in Mourenx houses eight facilities that organise numerous events for all age groups throughout the year. Lacq Odyssée, also known as Science Odyssée, at Le MI[X] offers public workshops, a fab lab, a toy library and meetings with experts.

The contemporary art gallery in Mourenx presents an average of six exhibitions per year, with each exhibition lasting approximately six weeks. The Musée d’art modeste in Mourenx’s intermunicipal cultural centre comprises more than 300 collected objects, many of which recall the industrial life of the Lacq basin.

The Jacques Barrouillet fitness trail in Mourenx is a 2.3 km loop. Interpretation trail no. 19 starts at Place des Pionniers and is 4.5 km long; the walking time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, with an elevation gain of 100 m. The interpretation trail in Mourenx highlights the “Mourenx” vegetated mural by Hervé Di Rosa.

Local Life

Every summer, Mourenx hosts the Marché des Producteurs de Pays, showcasing the skills of local farmers. Around a dozen farmers set up their stalls under the trees at the Salle des Ponts-Jumeaux in the Bourg district of Mourenx. The market offers a starter, main course, dessert and drinks.
