Culture

The parish church of Saint-Pierre in Buros is a neo-Gothic building designed by the architect Loupot in 1867. The year 1870 is engraved in the lintel above the entrance. The church features a notable series of stained-glass windows donated by families from Buros.

History

The motte castrale of Buros is dated to the period between the 10th and 12th centuries. It is owned by the municipality and is open to the public. At the foot of the motte castrale of Buros, next to the stairs leading to its summit, there is an information panel.

The original complex of Romas included a church dedicated to Saint James. The original buildings of Romas have disappeared and been replaced by newer structures. The abbaye laïque de Romas is considered to be a 12th-century complex; only a few remains survive on private property.

The Espiau deu Luy Hospital is considered to have been a dependency of the Abbey of Sauvelade dating from the 12th century. The building has disappeared, and its location is only presumed. The former Espiau deu Luy Hospital included a pilgrims’ hostel on the Way of St. James near the Biacabe Bridge over the Luy de Béarn. It was probably destroyed in 1569 by the troops of Jeanne d’Albret during the Wars of Religion.

The Tumulus du Pont-Long is dated to the Bronze and Iron Ages, beginning around 1800 BC. Excavations in the 19th century uncovered mainly pottery finds in several tumuli of Pont-Long near Buros.

Trails

The GR 653, also known as the Arles Way or Via Tolosona, passes through Buros. The interactive municipal map shows a 19.8-kilometre Way of St. James route from Morlaàs to Lescar; the stage is classified as moderately difficult.
