Culture

The washhouse historically served as a meeting place: washerwomen exchanged news and sang here. The lay abbey of Saint-Abit was founded in 1373, while the Château de Livron in Saint-Abit dates from the 17th century. At the end of the Middle Ages and throughout the Modern Era, Saint-Abit had two lay abbots. Each of them owned a church and was its patron and protector.

The church of Saint-Abit contains a simple wooden altar and a wooden altarpiece from the 17th or 18th century depicting John the Baptist. The war memorial in Saint-Abit depicts a symbolic scene of wartime devastation: a forgotten helmet, a ruined wall and shells placed in front of it define the composition.

Nature

The rural landscapes of Saint-Abit include fields lined with stone walls and traditional apple varieties. Footpaths open onto landscapes with the charm of bygone times.

Community life

Every year at the end of June, Saint-Abit celebrates the Feast of Saint John with dance performances, singing, music, sporting competitions and communal meals. The Véloroute is a central focal point of village life in Saint-Abit.
