Culture and History

Mimbaste is home to the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, dating from 1712. Its slender bell tower leans westward at the top; this is why Mimbaste is also known by the nickname “Tour de Pise”.

The small Château de Sanguinet was a former 16th-century caverie located on the banks of the Luy. It was destroyed by fire in 1953; only the walls remain.

The Maison capcazalière de Pachiou dates back to the early 17th century. The same family has lived there for 14 generations.

Geographical Location

The Dax–Orthez road runs through the municipality of Mimbaste. The Luy de France also runs through Mimbaste and offers opportunities for fishing there.

Crafts and Everyday Life

L’Artisan Horloger welcomes visitors to its workshop in Mimbaste. At L’Artisan Horloger, visitors can make their own watch in the workshop with the assistance of a watchmaker.

The artisanal cannery of Ferme Bastebieille produces foie gras, confit, magrets, rillettes and pâtés without preservatives. Ferme Bastebieille keeps ducks outdoors and traditionally force-feeds them with whole, non-GMO maize produced on the farm.

Le Panier Frais produces and sells organic vegetables all year round.

Brocante Eco-Solidaire is a non-profit second-hand goods and recycling centre. Visitors can find furniture, decorative items, books, clothing, toys, tools, antiques and sports equipment there; they can also have coffee or tea.
