Varaignes: Holiday apartments and houses

Culture

The Château de Varaignes is home to the Atelier-musée des Tisserands et de la Charentaise. It traces the local textile industry in the Périgord-Limousin – from processing the fibres to manufacturing Charentaises. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Varaignes was rebuilt in 1481, consecrated by the Bishop of Limoges on 26 September 1497, and restored in 1885.

Nature

Varaignes lies in the heart of the Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin. At the foot of the village, on the banks of the Crochet, lies Lud’eau vive. Its garden contains more than 200 varieties of textile and dye plants. Lud’eau vive also illustrates the diverse historical uses of hydropower with models of wheels, gears, a millstone, a hammer, a hydraulic ram and a noria.

Hiking

The Boucle de Varaignes is a 10.3 km circular hike that starts in Varaignes. It is marked by wooden posts with yellow caps.
