History and culture

The Eglise de Bretanor was built between 1110 and 1115 by the Benedictines of Montcaret on the site of a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was the chapel of the Benedictine priory of Breuilh, which was directly subordinate to the abbey of Montcaret. In 1123, the church was consecrated by Saint Bernard.

La Roque Basse was built between 1307 and 1312 as a tithe barn with four storeys full of grain stores and an apartment for the guard and collector. After a fire caused by lightning around 1725, the roof was renewed; the building was then reconstructed at one and a half storeys lower.
