Jumilhac-Le-Grand: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Château de Jumilhac is classified as a historic monument and features spectacular roofs with allegorically decorated roof finials, which are considered unique in France.

Culture

The Château de Jumilhac offers self-guided or guided tours, including a visit to the gardens.

The visit includes historic rooms with wood panelling and furniture from bygone eras, painted canvases, a famous copper kitchen collection, the legend of “La Fileuse” about Louise de Hautefort, and renovated terrace gardens themed around gold and alchemy.

The Château de Jumilhac is located along the signposted Richard the Lionheart route, a historic trail through Charente, Haute-Vienne, Dordogne and Corrèze.

The Eglise Saint-Pierre-Es-Lien stands directly next to the Château de Jumilhac. It dates from the 12th and 14th centuries and contains 17th-century wall paintings.

The Pont de la Tour is a medieval structure classified as a historic monument, with three arches, and still serves as a crossing between Limousin and Périgord.

There is a fish ladder at the site of the Pont de la Croix Bancaud; from there, visitors have a view of the Château de Jumilhac.

The Pont de la Croix Bancaud was probably built on an ancient ford over the Isle. The present bridge, which has been restored several times, is probably no older than the 17th century.

Nature

The Plan d'eau de Jumilhac is a 3-hectare lake upstream from the hydroelectric power station. Visitors can fish there at the foot of the cliffs of Jumilhac; a fishing permit is required.

The Boucle Plateau du Guet initially and finally passes through the Isle valley and, in between, crosses a plateau with panoramic views from the heights of Jumilhac.

Activities

The Circuit de la grande boucle is a 42-km circular route marked in black, intended mainly for horse riders and mountain bikers, and uses sections of all the municipality’s hiking trails.

The Carnet de bord de l'aventurier à Jumilhac is a family trail with games and puzzles in which visitors explore the village and discover its treasure; the accompanying booklet is available from the local tourist office.

Terra Aventura: Filez, pauvres fous! is a cultural activity at Place du Château based on the story of Louise de Hautefort.
