Monpazier: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The bastide of Monpazier is considered the finest example of a bastide in south-western France and is one of the best-preserved bastides in the Périgord. It can be visited independently or with a guided tour.

Culture

The historic architecture includes the Église Saint-Dominique, which was built in several phases between the end of the 13th and the 15th century in the Rayonnant Gothic style. It has a three-bay nave and a pentagonal transept. Monpazier also has 32 monuments that are either classified or listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.

The Bastideum is an immersive and interactive interpretation centre. Its visitor trail presents life in the newly founded towns of the late 13th century. During the season, the Bastideum offers public exhibitions, performances and tours.

The Dorie app offers an immersive tour of strategically important points in Monpazier while telling the story of the town. In addition, the Balade patrimoine en Pays de Monpazier presents the history, architecture and development of the bastide on a cultural tour with explanatory panels.

Walking tours

The Boucle des remparts is an easy, approximately 3-kilometre circular walk lasting about an hour through Monpazier’s bastide architecture. Among other places, it passes through the Carreyrous and across the Place des Cornières. Along the way, it passes 23 houses with open arcades dating from the 13th to the 17th century, the Église Saint-Dominique, a washhouse and the Fontaine des amours.

The Boucle du Moulin à vent starts in Monpazier. The approximately 4.5-kilometre circular route can be explored on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike and takes in the landscapes around the bastide.

In the centre of the bastide lies the Jardin public des Récollets, a public area for relaxation with benches beside the former Récollets monastery.

Market and activities

The Marché traditionnel du jeudi in Monpazier offers regional products such as duck, goose, chicken, strawberries and wine. The geocaching activity “Tèrra Aventura: Zéchopp, l'écro qui vous croque!” is also accessible free of charge all year round.
