Would you like to rent a holiday apartment in Daglan? The Maison de la Pierre Sèche et du Causse is open to visitors free of charge and offers a free permanent exhibition with six sections on dry-stone structures, the Causse, vines, truffles, the grain harvest, and weather and climate. The Maison’s aim is to raise awareness of and preserve the area’s natural and cultural heritage.
Culture
The Église Saint-Martin de Daglan was built in the 11th and 12th centuries and altered several times.
Another example of dry-stone architecture is the Cabane en pierre sèche du Mazut. It contains a fireplace, a cistern, and a two-tiered stone bench. The cabane served as a temporary shelter for eating, during a rain shower, or for resting. By decree of 27 December 1991, it was listed as a historic monument.
Landscape
At Daglan, the Céou is classified as a first-category river. The three-hour excursion “Géologie et Paysages” runs from La Roque-Gageac to Daglan.
Activities
The Céou near Daglan is used by kayakers; competitions are held there in winter. Daglan is also the starting point for numerous mountain biking and hiking routes. In 2020, the Sentier de la Bégonie was selected by the département as one of the ten most beautiful hiking trails in the Dordogne.
The free three-hour hike “Les plantes et fleurs du causse” starts in the village of Daglan and provides information about the biodiversity of the Céou slopes. During the flowering season, the also free three-hour hike “Les orchidées et plantes du causse” leads across the slopes of Daglan; it is accompanied by members of the Société d'Orchidophilie.
In Daglan, a guided 3-kilometre hike lasting 2 hours is offered, explaining dry-stone walls, shelters, and Cayrous. Fishing in the Céou is permitted with a fishing permit, which is available at the town hall.
