Montagrier: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

From the centre of Montagrier, the view stretches across the Dronne valley. The town combines this landscape impression with evidence of its medieval history and a variety of opportunities on foot, by bicycle or on the water.

Landscape and Trails

A walk through the streets of Montagrier leads to the „La Terrasse“ viewpoint. The Boucle de Montagrier is an easy circular hiking route measuring 7.4 kilometres, starting in Montagrier and taking approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

History and Architectural Heritage

At the southern entrance to the town stands the Porte Wiridel, a preserved remnant of Montagrier’s fortifications. It was built as part of the defensive walls constructed in the 14th century.

The Église Sainte Madeleine also reflects the town’s ecclesiastical history. It was a priory dependent on Brantôme and has a three-lobed apse, a dome over the crossing of the transept, and a neo-Gothic bell tower.

The Chapelle Saint-Sicaire is a 19th-century reconstruction. It was built on the site of a priory belonging to Brantôme Abbey and contains two reused sculptures in its façade.

The Maison de la Dronne is housed in a former 12th-century grain mill that was converted into a power station in 1907. The wheel and turbine are still visible in the building; the grounds of the Maison de la Dronne are open free of charge all year round.

Cycling, Hiking and Canoeing

The Centre Sports Nature Montagrier offers 22 mountain-biking routes for beginners through advanced riders. It is also a starting point for a wide range of mountain-biking, hiking, cycle-touring and canoeing routes. Individual support and equipment rental are available from the centre all year round.

Water and Events

„Découvre la Dronne en barque!“ offers a guided motorboat trip on the Dronne in Montagrier; it takes place by reservation.

In July and August, the Monta'Grillades Musicales de Montagrier invite visitors to a culinary, craft and music market on Friday evenings from 7 p.m.
