Saint-André-Et-Appelles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Above the Dordogne Valley lie the terraced vineyards of Château Baby. They overlook the Dordogne Valley and stand on a terroir consisting of clay, limestone, silt and pink gravel. Château Baby itself is an 18th- and 19th-century building on a rocky promontory above the Dordogne Valley; two pavilions with mansard roofs covered in slate flank it.

Château Grand Montet offers wine tastings and cellar tours at its 40-hectare vineyard. As part of its wine tourism activities, the estate also offers a signposted walking trail and a picnic.

Hiking and Trails

The Boucle de Pinson begins in Saint-André-et-Appelles and is 5.4 km long. It is classified as an easy route with a duration of 1 hour and 40 minutes. The starting point is the 17th-century Église de Saint André et Appelles. The route crosses the Ruisseau des Sandeaux over a bridge and follows rural paths as well as sunken lanes typical of the region. Culture and History

The Chapelle d’Appelles was rebuilt after its destruction during the Wars of Religion in 1707 and 1787. It preserves a painting dedicated to it, created by Pétrus Mauillac in 1772.

The washhouse in the Village des Chapelains was built in the 14th century. A spring feeds the fountain near the washhouse. Contemporary windows, now bricked up, have been preserved in the outbuildings of the Domaine des Pétities; in 1462, the estate belonged to the Knights Templar commandery of Saint-Avit de Soulège.

At the entrance to a mill in Saint-André is the stone inscription “Gabrielle Henri IV – N 1591”, commemorating the stay of Henri IV and Gabrielle d’Estrées.

Nature

The Menhir des Goulards stands at the edge of the “de la Garenne au Nic” forest on a sunken lane marked with red sandstone signs. The prehistoric limestone menhir is approximately 1 m high and approximately 0.50 m wide.

Saint-André-et-Appelles belongs to the La Dordogne Natura 2000 site. The regional surroundings of the Natura 2000 site include running waters, muddy riverbanks and alluvial forests.
