Sergeac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture and history

In the centre of Sergeac, a round fortified tower of Château Cramirat has been preserved; for a long time, it was the residence of the Templar community of Sergeac.

The Église Saint-Pantaléon in Sergeac is a 12th-century church whose foundation, according to tradition, is attributed to the Templars. Its bell tower was fortified with machicolations in the 14th century; the final bays were raised to serve as a refuge. By decree of 4 October 1929, the Église Saint-Pantaléon was classified as a Monument historique.

Landscape and trails

Sergeac has well-marked hiking trails through wooded terrain with diverse vegetation.

The Boucle des cabanes is a 7.57 km hiking trail through the surrounding hills. It passes historical remains and prehistoric sites and offers panoramic views over the valley.

The Boucle des Brandes is a 6.22 km walking trail. It begins at the hamlet of La Voulperie, passes through wooded areas and offers panoramic views from the surrounding ridges.

The 90 km long long-distance trail “Dans les pas des Hommes de Lascaux” also passes through Sergeac.

Prehistory

The Castel-Merle prehistoric site in Sergeac comprises ten remarkable rock shelters that were inhabited by Neanderthals 85,000 years ago and by Cro-Magnon people 35,000 years ago.

Extensive and diverse finds made of bone and flint, as well as several painted, engraved and sculpted blocks from all periods of the Upper Palaeolithic, were discovered at Castel-Merle.

Castel-Merle is open to the public. Guided tours, workshops and prehistoric activities are offered year-round by reservation for groups and individual visitors, including throwing hunting weapons, jewellery making, flint knapping and fire making.

Local production

Le Fournil des Croquants produces flour and sourdough bread from grain grown on its own farm. The sourdough bread is sold directly at the farm and at a weekly market.

Le Fournil des Croquants occasionally holds workshops at the farm teaching participants how to make sourdough bread.
