Eymet has preserved the history of a bastide since 28 June 1270: on that day, the Bastide d’Eymet was founded by Alphonse de Poitiers. The historic townscape also includes the Château de la bastide, which has been completely converted into a museum since 1963.

Culture and History
The Château de la bastide is partially listed as a French historic monument. At the Château d’Eymet, a curtain wall, a small corner tower, a machicolation above the gateway and a square keep from the 13th century have been preserved. The keep is called Tour Monseigneur or Tour des Anglais.
The preserved Pont ferroviaire d’Eymet railway bridge is also one of the town’s historic heritage features. The medieval Pont Médiéval du Bretou was built in the 13th century to cross the Dropt and has pedestrian refuge bays along the roadway.
Town and Squares
Eymet’s tourist information office is located beneath the arcades of Place de la Bastide, in a building dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Place de la Bastide features houses with arcades, a fountain and pedestrian areas that invite visitors to stroll through the historic centre.
Nature by the Water
The nature trail at Lac de l’Escourou has an accessible fishing pier and an information board about the lake’s fish. The nature trail was created in 2015/16 and runs for approximately one kilometre along the shore on the Eymet side of the small lake.
Lac de l’Escourou is used in the Pays d’Eymet for walking, recreation and fishing, and is a resting place for birds. The Bretou site is a seven-hectare landscaped park on the banks of the Dropt; a Roman bridge provides a crossing over the river.
Markets and Puzzles
Eymet’s Thursday market offers regional fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese, as well as goods from local and international artisans. The market Marché des producteurs et créateurs locaux in Eymet is organised by the local association Eymet en fête for artisans and producers. It offers food as well as arts and curiosities.
Eymet’s night market features stalls run by regional creatives, handicrafts from around the world, and food and refreshments to eat on site or take away. “Perce le mystère de la bastide d’Eymet” is a free investigation and puzzle game in the Pays d’Eymet; the game booklet is available all year round from the tourist information office.
