The church of Bars has a portal with a Gothic appearance, surmounted by a bell tower with four sound openings. Two of these openings contain bells dating from 1653 and from the early years of the 17th century, respectively.

The church is said to have been founded between 1025 and 1120 and is described as a priory dependent on a Benedictine abbey founded in 1025. The 11th-century church houses the Harmonium Museum of Bars; its restoration was completed in August 2005.

The Harmonium Museum houses a collection of 19th-century harmoniums, including some instruments signed by famous artists. Knowledgeable visitors are allowed to play some of the instruments. The Atelier des herbes folles in Bars offers visitors the opportunity to learn about a plant, identify it, discover its history and sometimes eat it, free of charge and in a participatory setting. Fables by Jean de La Fontaine can also be discovered in the village of Bars.

Routes and nature

The Route des Canons is a country route approximately 34 kilometres long that passes through ten municipalities, including Bars. Along this route, Bars is associated with the “forge itinérante” (travelling forge) practised in the forest.

The Boucle de la Forêt Domaniale de Barade runs mainly along firebreaks, uses only a few roads and has a moderate elevation gain. The Boucle de la Croze is a 6.2-kilometre circular hiking trail in the vicinity of Bars.

There is a car park next to the church of Bars, with information boards about the municipality’s circular trails.

Le Bistrot Gourmand serves local and international cuisine and offers piano-bar music.
