Culture

The Église Notre-Dame de la Nativité de Cénac was classified as a historic monument by decree of 12 August 1987. It is a 12th-century church; the transept, choir and two apsidioles have been preserved. In the choir, richly sculpted capitals on the columns support a series of arcades.

The Église Saint-Julien was classified as a historic monument by decree of 12 September 1977. It has origins dating back to the 12th century and features a nave, choir, semicircular apse and sculpted capitals. Its bell dates from the 13th century and has been classified as a protected object since 4 May 1905.

The Comité Culturel de Cénac-et-Saint-Julien organises theatre and music performances as well as conferences throughout the year.

Landscape

Cénac-et-Saint-Julien is part of the La Dordogne Natura 2000 site, a special protection area designated FR 7200660.

The Falaise du Conte is designated as an environmentally sensitive natural area (ENS) and includes cliffs, caves, limestone grasslands and oak forests; Cénac-et-Saint-Julien is one of the municipalities concerned. The Falaises du Conte rise more than 100 m above the valley and have been listed as a historic monument since 1997. They include more than 23 caves, some of which were already inhabited during the Palaeolithic.

Things to do

The Boucle Les Comboux is a 15 km, five-hour hiking route in Cénac-et-Saint-Julien focusing on historical and natural-history themes, including fauna and flora.

The AAPPMA de Cénac manages fishing rights and protects the waterways in an area extending from Pont de Vitrac to Les Milandes and covering the Dordogne and Céou rivers. Canoë Randonnée Dordogne has operated an official base in Cénac/Port de Domme since 1985.

Local life

The Marché de Cénac is a traditional weekly market where producers offer fresh, local and seasonal products. Cénac-et-Saint-Julien has 18 information panels on the history and heritage of the municipality. A self-guided tour of Cénac-et-Saint-Julien is also available.
