Culture and history
The Église Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes was originally Romanesque, destroyed in 1362, rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 15th century, devastated after the Battle of Coutras and restored in the 19th century. It has been a protected monument since 1997 and preserves a carved and polychrome wooden altarpiece from the 17th century. The town hall is also a listed monument: it is a 16th- and 17th-century building with a wooden gallery and has been protected since 1948.
In the vicinity of Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes is the Abbye Notre-Dame de Bonne Esperance, which is classified as a monastery. In the wider regional area are La Renaudie and Château de Beauséjour, both classified as châteaux. The Gallo-Roman Villa, classified as a historic site, and the Parc de Fayolle, classified as a park, are also located there.
Paths and waterways
The Boucle de l’écluse is an easy, 5.0-kilometre circular hike that begins in Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes. The Boucle de l'étang is a walking route with historical and natural-history highlights and runs along the Canal de la Filolie. The fully restored lock system of the Canal de la Filolie is used by a gabare in summer.
Nature and landscape
The Forêt de la Double can be explored from Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. The Parc de Fournils has been listed by the DREAL since 1980 and contains numerous hundred-year-old trees.
