Bilwisheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Bilwisheim combines a compact village silhouette with distinctive traces of its history. The village is built up around Rue Principale, Rue Basse and Rue du Fossé aux Loups. The Church of Saint-Etienne provides a particular focal point: its portal tower, built from hewn sandstone blocks, bears the year 1906 and replaced a Romanesque choir tower. Inside, the church has a semicircular choir.
Those considering Bilwisheim as a travel destination may perhaps wish to rent a holiday apartment here.
Culture and History
History is also visible at the entrance to the cemetery: the year 1764 is inscribed on its pillars. Bilwisheim also had a medieval castle, built between the 12th and 14th centuries. The base of a tower from this complex has survived.
Landscape and Agriculture
The village is surrounded by fields and forests. The watercourse Le Muhlbach flows through Bilwisheim. Local agriculture includes cattle and geese farming, as well as the cultivation of hops, asparagus and cereals. In the Villes et Villages fleuris d’Alsace competition, Bilwisheim received three flowers in 2023.
Activities and Events
The equestrian association Rênes et Guides has been based in Bilwisheim since 2004 and offers riding courses there. The Bilwisheim–Krautwiller–Waltenheim–Wingersheim mountain biking route starts at Bilwisheim Town Hall and passes through the Brumath Forest, along paths, a cycle path and roads, as well as beside the Rhine–Marne Canal.
Bilwisheim’s 2025 Christmas market included a St Nicholas procession with Hanstrapp, Christkindel and a little angel.
