Wine and Landscape

Pinot grape varieties and Gewürztraminer are primarily cultivated in the Traenheim area. The vineyards of Traenheim consist of heavy, marly Keuper soils with iridescent marls.

The Sentier viticole de Traenheim is a 2.5-kilometre vineyard trail that begins at the Place de la Fontaine. Information boards along the trail explain the work of the winegrowers and the characteristics of various Alsatian grape varieties. The trail also offers panoramic views of the Vosges and the Alsatian plain.

Culture and History

The Protestant church of Traenheim stands on the site of a Merovingian cemetery. The tower from the first Romanesque building, dating from the 12th or 13th century, has been preserved. The choir dates from the Gothic period of the 13th or 14th century.

The Synagogue-grenier Traenheim was established between 1722 and 1723 in the attic of a house dating from 1582. The attic of the Synagogue-grenier Traenheim is classified as a historic monument because of the rarity of its decorations in the region.

Traenheim is first mentioned in 1050 under the name “DREHEIM” in the archives of Pope Leo IX.

Wine Experiences

The Cave du Roi Dagobert offers wine tourism activities such as Apéro’Dago, open days and concerts. Free, expert tastings of wines and Crémants d’Alsace are offered at the Cave du Roi Dagobert’s sales cellar.

Routes and Transport

The 33.5-kilometre “1. Le Vignoble” route passes through Traenheim. The village is also served by a regular bus/tram service.
