Holiday apartment in Allerød Municipality: Lakes, moors and culture

Allerød Municipality combines forests, lakes, moors and dry grasslands with an unusually dense succession of natural and cultural sites. Several natural areas are protected or designated as nature reserves; some are home to rare habitat types as well as rare animals and plants. There are also trails through the municipality, historical landmarks, theatres, cinemas and events in Allerød, Lillerød, Blovstrød and Lynge.

At Buresø, the municipalities of Allerød, Frederikssund and Egedal meet at a tunnel valley. The lake is also part of a system of valleys and ridges formed by meltwater, extending from Furesø to Buresø. This landscape also includes Bastrup Sø as well as other lakes, moors and wooded areas.

Nature

Allerød Sø and Kattehale Mose together form a contiguous protected natural area. It includes pastures, lakes, peat bogs, grasslands and wooded areas. Many orchids can be seen there in spring and summer. Another distinctive landscape is Tokkekøb Hegn: the diverse area covers 631 hectares with old plantations, hills, moors and lakes.

Bastrup Sø is also one of the municipality’s areas characterised by natural features. Part of the lake is designated as a quiet zone to promote the well-being of animals and plants. The protection regulations therefore complement the lake’s landscape significance and its integration into the extensive valley and ridge system.

Trails and water

Friluftsguiden offers walking and cycling routes throughout Allerød Municipality. The Kløverstierne in Lillerød and Lynge feature routes with example lengths of 2.5 km, 5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km. At Lynge Grusgrav, good paths lead through hilly terrain and have been developed for walks.

Different bathing spots are located alongside one another by the water. Buresøbadet is a larger bathing spot with a bathing jetty. Karlenes Badested is smaller and has no lifebuoy. The two names and features clearly indicate the different conditions at the bathing spots.

Passengers on the Blovstrød Banen can get off at Oscar Jensens Bro and walk in the area around Allerød Sø. This combines the historic railway connection with a walk around the lake, without assuming any further characteristics of the route.

History and culture

Dæmpegårdsdysse is a well-preserved megalithic tomb dating from around 3400 BC. Another historical landmark is Bastrup Tårnet, also known as Bastrup Ruin. The medieval ruin is located by Bastrup Sø, dates from the 12th century and is considered one of the largest structures in Northern Europe from that period.

The preserved Blovstrød Teglværk complex includes Remisen, a pottery with three brick kilns, and a carpentry workshop. Blovstrød is also home to Blovstrød Gadekær, a village centre protected for its cultural and historical significance, with a village pond, pollarded poplars, individual deciduous trees, old farms, a church and a village school. Blovstrød Gadekær and the associated municipal land are open to the public; there are several benches on the grounds.

The LAFAK archive is located in the historic Kirkehavegaard in Allerød. LAFAK collects local historical source material about the region’s past and makes it publicly accessible. Thus, both the archive’s location and the public accessibility of the collected material form part of the municipality’s cultural offerings.

Events

Mungo Park is permanently based in Allerød and develops and presents new stage stories there throughout the year. From Allerød Station, Mungo Park can be reached on foot in three minutes. Allerød Bio is a cinema run by an association, showing premiere films and special screenings such as Babybio, Seniorbio and Operabio. Allerød Bibliotek is a cultural meeting place with events, lectures and exhibitions.

Recurring events include Kunstmarked på Øen, an annual event where local artists exhibit and sell paintings, ceramics, jewellery and other works. Lynge Byfest includes, among other things, hot sandwiches, grilled sausages, beer and homemade cake.
