Culture and history
At Vikingelandsbyen, visitors can experience a reconstructed Viking Age setting and try out how people lived at that time. The Vikingelandsbyen site can be visited every day of the week and year. Outside teaching hours, the houses in Vikingelandsbyen are closed; however, the site remains open and is freely accessible to visitors to the forest.
The Viking Age reconstruction also includes Haralds bro, a 700 m-long reconstructed road and bridge route from the Viking Age.
Another historical detail is preserved by Herstedøster Kirke: its 9 m-long Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century from split glacial boulders. The Late Gothic tower of Herstedøster Kirke dates from the 15th century.
In Kongsholmparken in Albertslund, the sculpture “Thomas på Bjerget” stands on a mountainside. It is part of the artist Thomas Dambo’s project “De seks glemte kæmper” and is made of recycled wood.
Nature and access
Naturcenter Herstedhøje and the surrounding area are easily accessible for wheelchair users. On the first weekday of each month, it is possible to drive to the top of Herstedhøje by car, bus or mobility vehicle for people with disabilities from 9:00 to 15:00. Naturcenter Herstedhøje can be reached by S-train to Albertslund Station and then by bus.
Active and animal experiences
The mountain bike course at Hyldager Bakker in Kongsholmparken in Albertslund is 1.2 km long and of medium difficulty. A short skills section for children and beginners is used to practise cornering and pump-track technique.
Toftegården is open to visitors every day. There, visitors can experience horses, sheep, chickens, rabbits and other animals up close.
The outdoor swimming pool Friluftsbadet Badesøen has a children’s pool, a swimming pool and pools with slides. The site also includes volleyball courts, ball-game courts, a playground and a café area.
