Valasska Bystrice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Valašská Bystřice is located in a highly varied, mountainous municipal area and combines a distinctive landscape with an unusually rich cultural history. A small wooden lookout tower stands on Búřov Mountain, offering views; admission to the tower is free, and it is freely accessible to the public.

Mountains, views and trails

The path to the lookout tower on Búřov follows a marked hiking route along a paved road that can be used with a pushchair. At the same time, the route features a steep ascent into the mountains. Another long connection is the 43 km-long Portášská trasa: it leads from Valašská Bystřice via a strenuous ascent to Santov; alternatively, you can continue via Vsacký Cáb to Dušná.

Culture and history

In the centre of Valašská Bystřice, the Památník Marie Bognerové in the former school displays the artist’s paintings, drawings and watercolours, as well as objects from her everyday life.

The Portáš graves stand in the local cemetery in front of the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. They are a state-protected cultural monument. The site consists of two stone sarcophagi with carved crosses and inscriptions. In front of them are approximately 15 cm-thick, Baroque-worked sandstone slabs featuring skull-and-crossbones motifs. The right-hand grave contains the bailiff of Velká Bystřice, Portáš lieutenant (commander) Jiří Křenek, and his son Ondřej Křenek, a Portáš corporal and blacksmith.

The wooden Zvonička na Kyčerách was built in 1997 and rings its bell every day at noon. From 11 to 13 July 2025, Valašská Bystřice hosted the Portášské slavnosti for the 15th time.

Surroundings and orientation

In the vicinity of Valašská Bystřice stands the small Neo-Gothic chapel Pod Spinou at a junction of hiking trails leading from Valašská Bystřice to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Valašská Bystřice can be reached by car or bus; there is a car park in front of the information centre.
