Holiday apartment in Slavičín: Culture, views and activities
Slavičín combines notable traces of history with viewpoints, cycling routes and a variety of leisure destinations. One of the town’s defining buildings is the Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia: it is the oldest building in Slavičín and dates back to the 13th century. In 1897, it was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style.
Culture and history
The Slavičín Town Museum presents the air battle over the White Carpathians on 29 August 1944 in a five-minute virtual reality experience. The museum also displays archaeological finds from the Slavičínsko region, dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Another exhibition is dedicated to the region’s traditional craft of “zvěroklestičství”, the castration of animals.
The cemetery around the Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia is also one of the town’s historical landmarks. It contains the graves of around 28 American airmen who died in the air battle over the White Carpathians and were buried there on 31 August 1944. The educational cycling tour “Letecká bitva Karpaty” leads to this cemetery in Slavičín. The Městské muzeum Slavičín is also a stop on this educational cycling tour.
The cultural character of the town is also reflected in Wichterle Château, which has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964. The historic gallery in the château is freely open to the general public.
Landscape and trails
Vyhlídka sv. Kryštofa is a viewpoint with an unusual design. Its forms are inspired by Gothic cathedrals, stained glass and the interplay of light. From there, you can see across the landscape around Slavičín, including the Church of Saint Adalbert and Saint Cecilia and the chapel in Hrádek.
Another route through the landscape is cycling route 5238, which connects Slavičín and Luhačovice. Along the way, it offers views of Slavičín against the backdrop of the peaks of the White Carpathians. For hiking, the moderately difficult 15-kilometre circular route “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku” is signposted. It leads from the centre of Slavičín via Pivečkův lesopark to the viewpoints above Petrůvka and back. The circular route offers views of the White Carpathians.
Activities
Slavex Trails has four natural or slightly bike-park-style trails. Together, they are more than 3.5 kilometres long. Seasonally, Slavex Trails offers bike courses led by instructors as well as holiday camps for children.
The municipal outdoor swimming pool has a beach volleyball court for visitors. It is located in a wooded setting near the château park, sports stadium and ponds, and is generally open from June to September.
Pivečkův lesopark was established in 1936 as a recreational area for the residents of Slavičín, particularly for employees of the Piveček family’s shoe factory. The park is freely accessible. Its listed features include a pond, a playground and dozens of wooden sculptures. There is also a large natural amphitheatre and a children’s playground.
