Holiday apartment in Korytná: Nature, Springs and Culture

Korytná combines a protected landscape with springs, walking destinations and historic landmarks. The entire cadastral area lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The village itself is situated at an elevation of 340 metres in the Korytnice Valley, on the right bank of the Korytnice stream. Thus, in Korytná, geographical clarity, open landscapes and cultural and historical landmarks come together within a compact thematic area.

Landscape and Nature

The landscape is characterised above all by its unforested areas: most of them consist of meadows and pastures. The Korytná cadastral area is also home to the Nové louky natural monument. It is located on the right-hand side of the road from Korytná to Strání, approximately two kilometres from Korytná. The approximate distance is just as much a part of the location reference as its position within the cadastral area.

The springs also shape the distinctive character of the village. AOPK ČR lists Korytná as a place with hydrogen sulfide springs. One specific spring is Smraďačka, located in the forest above Korytná at an elevation of 432 metres. Its mineral water contains abundant sulfur, salt and medicinal clay. In Korytná, this connects the protected landscape with a natural feature that extends beyond meadows, pastures and forest.

Walking Destinations

The historic Pavlových pear tree is a destination for a walk in Korytná. You can also walk to the Podseďák reservoir and enjoy the surrounding landscape. The two destinations mentioned represent different points of interest within the village: one is a distinctive tree, while the other is a reservoir whose surroundings can be experienced on foot.

Culture and History

The Church of St Wenceslas stands on a small elevation in the centre of Korytná. Its present appearance resulted from alterations carried out in 1703 and 1723, while the original building dates back to the 14th century. The village patron saint, St Wenceslas, is also associated with the Korytná Hody festival. It takes place on the last Sunday in September and is connected with the feast of the village patron saint.

Another historic landmark is the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity in Korytná. After being destroyed following the First World War, it was rebuilt in 1936. Annual celebrations of the Most Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi were held at the chapel, which was decorated for these festivities. For generations, it also served as a place for meeting, prayer and communal celebrations.

The Korytná 1939–1945 Museum displays Second World War military artefacts that originate directly from the Korytná cadastral area. Since January 2025, the museum has been open to visitors on Sundays from 14:00 to 16:00 or accessible by prior telephone appointment.

A Notable Viewpoint with Current Status

The current status of the Obecnice lookout tower is particularly important: According to a notice published on 23 January 2026, the lookout tower has ceased operations. Its inadequate technical condition means that access cannot be provided safely, and entry is prohibited.
