Kateřinice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kateřinice is located in the Hostýnské vrchy hills, 9 kilometres northwest of Vsetín, in a long, narrow valley along the Kateřinka stream. Numerous hiking and cycling trails pass through the village.

Nature

Březinka is an important tributary of the Kateřinka and has a natural riverbed. The most valuable meandering section of the Březinka lies north of the fire pond. Forests cover approximately 60 percent of the cadastral area of Kateřinice.

An important natural area is the Dubcová Nature Reserve, established in 1950 on Dubcová Hill. It includes mixed stands of birch and pine, as well as wet meadows with orchids, early marsh orchids, marsh helleborines, roof irises, narrow-leaved cottongrass and other plants. The area lies on the eastern slope below the summit of Dubcová, 0.5 kilometres southwest of Kateřinice, at an altitude of 435 to 520 metres. Protected habitats there include wet cabbage thistle meadows, calcareous fens, mesic hay meadows, submontane and montane Nardus grasslands, and Carpathian oak-hornbeam forests, providing habitats for specially protected plant and animal species.

There is also a large lime tree in Ojíčná with a trunk circumference of 640 centimetres. It was planted at the beginning of the 17th century and is one of the five largest lime trees in the former Vsetín District.

Culture and History

Several places in Kateřinice and Ojíčná commemorate the history of the municipality. The memorial to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars stands by the primary school in Kateřinice and was unveiled on 29 September 1946. In Ojíčná, a partisan memorial commemorates the fighter Franta Belgičan, who fell there on 8 March 1945.

Traditional domestic crafts in Kateřinice included making brooms, baskets and wooden tools, as well as weaving seats for factories producing bentwood furniture. A later cultural chapter is associated with the Zvonky Dobré zprávy ensemble. Based in Kateřinice, the ensemble was founded on 6 July 2011 at an international handbell camp in Kateřinice and is considered the only ensemble of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The local buildings include the Evangelical church, built in 1952, and a school building dating from 1910. The church in Kateřinice is surrounded by a garden. Thus, the religious building, school, memorial sites and traditional crafts stand side by side as different testimonies to the history of the village.

Getting Around

The hills and forests around Kateřinice offer good viewpoints for photographers. A walk from Kateřinice to Lázy Loučka climbs for a total of approximately 5 kilometres and takes about 3 hours overall. In winter, the ridges of the local hills offer good conditions for cross-country skiing.

Bus route 628 is listed as public transport. It operates from 14 June 2026 to 12 December 2026 between Hošťálková, Kateřinice and Valašské Meziříčí. An asphalt road also leads from Kateřinice to Lázy Loučka.

Local Life

In summer, four gatherings were held in Kateřinice under the name “Snídaně v trávě”. The four editions of “Snídaně v trávě” documented in 2025 had the themes sweet, English, Wallachian and fire-related.
