Discover Březnice: Nature, Culture and Holiday Apartment

Březnice lies in the valley of the Březnice stream below the western peaks of the Vizovice Highlands. Meadows and mixed forests characterize a large part of the municipality; the terrain is hilly and has almost no level areas. The Březnice stream rises in Březnice and has two officially recognized sources. The landscape, nature-related attractions and historic sites therefore offer different focal points when choosing a holiday apartment in Březnice.

Landscape and Nature

Two notable trees on Kříby in the cadastral area of Březnice have officially been designated as memorial trees: the “Hrušeň u Slováčků” memorial pear tree on January 29, 2016, and the “Oskeruše u Janečků” memorial service tree on July 18, 2022. The “Březnice u Zlína” European protected area is part of the Natura 2000 network and protects the snail species “vrkoč útlý”. In the vicinity of Březnice, this protected area consists of a meadow spring on the right bank of an unnamed right tributary of the Březnice. The landscape thus brings together open meadows, mixed forests, the stream and designated natural monuments.

Culture and History

The parish Church of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle is located in Březnice. As a protected monument, it has a late Gothic core and is considered one of the oldest churches in Moravia; the first records of it date from 1437. A conservation area has been designated for House No. 21 in Březnice, including its sheds and barn. At the site of the former Březnický horní (Řihoškův) mill, a park-like layout has been created on the site of the former collection basin. Presumably, no masonry remains still present today are original. In 1955, a resistance memorial was erected on Kříby to commemorate the tragedy of the inhabitants of Březnice. The Peace Mound in Březnice on Kříby commemorates the victims of the Second World War and provides a viewpoint over the surrounding landscape.

Experiences

The open-air nature trail in Březnice leads through the municipality and includes ten questions; their answers form a puzzle at the end. In the vicinity of Březnice, a forest nature trail to a bunker of the antifascist resistance provides access to the bunker in the municipal forest in the cadastral area of Bohuslavice u Zlína. The two nature trails have different emphases: the trail in Březnice combines exploring the locality with questions and a puzzle, while the forest trail leads to a historic structure. The Březnice Sports and Cultural Complex in the Filip district includes a multipurpose court with a synthetic surface. The complex offers the court for tennis, volleyball, basketball and small-sided football, as well as a children’s playground. In addition to the trails and memorial sites, various sports are therefore available at a designated location.

Connections

Březnice is well connected by bus even at weekends and lies on routes from Zlín to Uherské Hradiště, Uherský Brod and Luhačovice, as well as on long-distance routes to Slovakia. There is also a dedicated Zlín–Březnice route operated by ČSAD Vsetín.
