Police: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The restored synagogue in Police presents the life of the Jewish rural population in a small permanent exhibition. It was built in 1759 and is a unique surviving example of a rural Baroque synagogue in the Czech Republic. The synagogue has been restored to its original appearance. Following reconstruction between 2012 and 2020, it was open to the public.

Culture and History

The Jewish cemetery in Police was established in the 17th century. It contains 260 gravestones; the oldest legible gravestone dates from 1681.

The chateau in Police houses a museum about Waldemar Matuška. Tours of the chateau also include access to the chateau tower, which offers views of the surrounding area.

On Židovská Street in Police, most of the 26 houses deliberately built along the street have been preserved, including a distillery at number 138 and a hospital with a bath at number 128.

The RAF Museum in Police commemorates the courage, suffering and sacrifice of the airmen who joined the foreign resistance during the Second World War.

Kavárna REPETE is located at Police 77, on the grounds of the chateau in Police. Pražírna REPETE roasts its own coffee in small batches.

Getting Around

The “Po hradech, zámcích a zříceninách” route runs between Jemnice and Lubnice via Police and is suitable for hikers and cyclists.
