Hornice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hornice’s history can be found in several specific places: On Turecký kopec, in the cadastral area of the municipality of Hornice, there is a fortified hilltop settlement whose occupation dates back to the 10th century.

Culture and History

A ditch and rampart have been preserved on the eastern access side of Tvrz Hornice fortress. Ceramic finds date the fortress’s active existence from the transition between the 13th and 14th centuries until the middle of the 15th century. The former Hornice castle site was built in the 14th century next to today’s Obecní rybník.

The Chapel of sv. Jana Nepomuckého has a rectangular floor plan, a three-sided apse and is built of bricks. It was completed in 1920–1921; a marble memorial plaque from 1922 bearing the names of the victims of the First World War is set into the building. The Výklenková kaple Hornice is a small sacred building with a Neoclassical appearance at the Hornice–Velký Újezd–Kojatice crossroads. A wayside shrine on the road to Kojatice is another local landmark of Hornice.

Places to Visit

Hornický rybník is located on the eastern edge of Hornice. After flowing through Asuán pond west of the municipality of Hornice, the Bihanka enters its cadastral area. The annual fish harvest at Obecní rybník attracts more than 1,000 people from the surrounding area every year.

Tvrz Hornice fortress can be reached from the southeastern edge of the village via a path along the houses to Bobák pond and across its dam.
