Historic sites and a landscape of hills, a stream valley and ponds give Krahulov a distinct character. The Hradiště cultural area, locally known as “kolo”, is located on the grounds of Krahulov’s vanished fortress.
Culture and History
The vanished fortress of Krahulov was founded in the second half of the 13th century. The Hradiště cultural area has a fortified area that is used as a dance floor.
The Church of Saint Peter in Chains stands in an elevated position in the middle of the cemetery. The Late Romanesque building was remodelled in the Baroque style and is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. A Liturgy of the Word is held in the church at 9:00 a.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month; a Holy Mass is celebrated at 6:00 p.m. on the Friday after the third Sunday. Subject to change.
The Sad svobody in Krahulov was established in 1919 for the fallen citizens.
Landscape and Bodies of Water
Krahulovský kopec reaches an elevation of 505 metres and, together with the stream valley, shapes the local landscape. The Parný Mlýn pond lies south of Krahulov.
The Stařečský potok flows through the Parný Mlýn and Steklý rybník ponds south of Krahulov and empties into the Jihlava. Twenty-five dragonfly species have been recorded at the Parný mlýn pond near Krahulov; it is home to numerous populations of endangered species inhabiting shallow, warm, still waters with abundant aquatic vegetation.
Paths and Connections
The 49.5-kilometre yellow-marked Třebíčský okruh hiking trail (Cesta Václava Vlastníka) passes through Krahulov. The Okříšky–Znojmo railway line also runs through Krahulov and provides a train connection for holiday guests staying at the holiday settlement by Steklý rybník.
