Pacov Castle and the Town Museum

Pacov Castle was originally founded as a fortress in the 13th century. In the 16th century, Pacov Fortress was converted into a castle under the Lords Robmháp of Suchá. The Pacov Information Centre is located on the ground floor of the south wing. The castle also features a presentation on the life and work of the poet Antonín Sova.

The Antonín Sova Town Museum in Pacov offers visits to its permanent and temporary exhibitions. Its origins date back to 1908. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the castle and the museum as different cultural focal points in the town itinerary, without every outing having to be the same.

Churches, Heritage Protection and Jewish Heritage

Several religious buildings shape the historical diversity of Pacov. St Michael’s Church was originally Gothic, founded in the 13th century and built around 1350. The Castle Church of St Wenceslas serves as an exhibition hall. The Cemetery Church of St Barbara is an early Baroque building dating from 1681. Pacov’s urban heritage conservation zone was designated in 1990 because of its medieval-historical origins and the large number of architectural and cultural monuments.

The Jewish cemetery in Pacov was founded in 1680. Around 300 gravestones have been preserved there; the oldest date from the first half of the 18th century. The mortuary houses a permanent exhibition on the history of the Jewish population in the Pacov region. The cemetery is open to the public subject to Jewish rules and holidays. Pacov Synagogue was built in 1823 and is open to the public during occasional events.

Green Spaces and Cycling

For quieter parts of the day, the castle park and Antonín Sova Park in Pacov offer green spaces suitable for walks and relaxation. Cyclists can use a publicly accessible service and charging station for electric bicycles free of charge in the courtyard of Pacov Castle. Pacov also has dozens of kilometres of designated cycling routes. Those looking for accommodation can therefore choose between a more culture-focused stay and a plan involving longer active days.

Educational Trail and Annual Motorsport Event

The Sova Educational Trail begins in Pacov and leads via the municipality of Bratřice and Stražiště Mountain to Lukavec. It is 12 kilometres long, has four stops and is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. It therefore offers a clearly defined route for an active outing, while the designated cycling routes also allow for more extensive tours. A special date in the annual calendar is the historic motorcycle race, which takes place in Pacov every year on the third weekend in June.
