Dolní Smrčné combines the natural landscape of the Brtnice Valley with notable traces of the area's history. The Údolí Brtnice protected area preserves the valley as an independent geomorphological phenomenon with high biodiversity and also includes the cadastral territory of Dolní Smrčné.

Nature

A marked hiking trail leads through the Brtnice Valley from Brtnice for approximately 8 km to Rokštejn Castle. For the return journey on this excursion, taking the train or bicycle are options. The combination with the train is described as practical for families with children.

Culture and History

A defining landmark of Dolní Smrčné is the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary. It was built and consecrated in 1893. Eight farmsteads are grouped around the chapel in a distinctive fan-shaped arrangement.

The local history also includes the Václav Anděl glassworks, which was founded in Dolní Smrčné in 1906. It processed lead crystal, which was exported mainly to England, and ceased production in the 1990s.
