Blažkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Blažkov showcases its history at specific sites while also preserving vibrant local traditions. Ecclesiastical landmarks, memorial sites, archaeological traces and several cycling routes shape the character of the village.

History and Culture

The Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren in Blažkov was ceremonially opened on 28 October 1926. A church service is held every year in the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on their feast day. A memorial to those who fell in the First World War also stands on the village green.

Blažkov’s protected wayside shrine also points to the village’s past. It stands on the site of a former burial ground, confirmed by the discovery of numerous skeletons during road construction. Blažkov is first mentioned in 1348; for almost the entire 15th and 16th centuries, Blažkov belonged to the Pernštejn family.

Archaeological Traces

Remains of the settlement known as “Řecky” can be found in the meadow by the river below the slope called “na Babinci”. Another tradition relates to the Na Babici promontory above the Bobrůvka: according to oral tradition, a castle is said to have stood there. Archaeological investigations did in fact uncover the remains of a settlement built of wood and clay.

Local Traditions

The Blažkovské závody přes rybník are a recurring tradition in Blažkov that began in 1947. The event includes traditional performances by local amateur actors as well as exhibitions of historic automobiles and agricultural machinery. During the competitions, daring cyclists ride across a narrow wooden footbridge just above the surface of the pond.

Cycling

Several routes connect Blažkov with the wider region: Cycle Route 5130 connects Blažkov with Šiklův mlýn, while Cycle Route 5235 connects Zvole with Blažkov. The Zubří-stezky circular route also passes through Blažkov and is suitable for all types of bicycles; trekking bikes and mountain bikes are particularly recommended.

Blažkov is listed as a possible bus destination; the village is 2.5 km from Šiklův mlýn.
