Povrly: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the Povrly area, the Porta Bohemica Natura 2000 site encompasses a deep, often gorge-like Elbe Valley. The landscape area includes the river, riparian vegetation and selected, predominantly wooded slopes of the gorge valley.

Nature

There are 11 protected trees in the municipality of Povrly, distributed across Slavošov, Lužec (2), Šachov (3), Lysá, Roztoky, Český Bukov (2), Maškovice and Mírkov. One of the notable landscape features is Bradlo, a 452 m-high lookout rock above Povrly offering views of the deeply incised valley, the Lužecký stream and its tributary. In the wider area around the 380 m-high Kozí vrch, there is also a landslide area and an old quarry.

History

The origins of Povrly date back to the 12th century and are connected with the activities of the Order of St. John in northwestern Bohemia. The village’s agricultural past in the 17th to 19th centuries is reflected in its typical log houses. The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Povrly dates from 1936 and stands on the site of an older wooden chapel built in 1808.

Protected buildings in the municipality also tell the story of the area: the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Roztoky is listed as a protected cultural monument in the Povrly municipal plan. The Blansko castle ruins in Mírkov are likewise listed there as a protected cultural monument.

Getting around

Cycle route 3066 passes through Povrly and by the local outdoor swimming pool; cyclists can stop there and swim. The Velké Březno–Povrly ferry operates year-round and enables crossings of the Elbe to Povrly. A cycling tour leads through Povrly to Mírkov and then approximately 1.5 km uphill to Blansko Castle, where visitors can enjoy the view and read information about the castle.
