Natural landscape and history

The Durana Nature Reserve comprises a unique complex of beech stands with individual large fir trees. Below the Úsobrno glassworks, the Mýtočínský stream winds through the valley of the Durana Nature Reserve.

The hillfort site on Durana was a provincial centre mentioned in forged documents from the second half of the 11th century and fell into decline in the second half of the 13th century. The fortification on Durana is almost circular, has a diameter of 50 to 60 metres, and is bordered by a wide rampart and a moat.

Culture

The present-day Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Úsobrno stands on the site of a demolished chapel and was built between 1948 and 1951. It has an organ dating from 1850, which was extensively restored in 2002.

The Úsobrno Municipal Museum presents the history of glassmaking and agriculture, historical photographs of the municipality, municipal chronicles, and the banners of Úsobrno and its volunteer fire brigade. It is accessible by prior arrangement with the municipal office.

Count Karl Maria Strachwitz founded the Karlshütte glassworks in Úsobrno in 1827, naming it after himself. Among the town's notable sights is the Brichtovský Mill. The Horní Mill is the oldest surviving building in Úsobrno and was built around 1610.

Geographical location

A long-distance cycle route runs through Úsobrno, splitting at Trnávka in two directions towards Hradec Králové and Jeseník, and is known as the Amber Trail.
