Tvořihráz combines protected forest habitats, historical traces and a diverse cultural heritage. Highlights include Tvořihrázský les, the small château with its farmyard and several monuments in Tvořihráz.

Nature and Historical Traces

Tvořihrázský les is a Natura 2000 site of European importance. It protects oak-hornbeam forests as well as habitats of the stag beetle, great capricorn beetle and barbastelle bat. The forest is also home to preserved burial mounds, historic sunken lanes, ponds and boundary stones.

Trails through Tvořihráz

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Znojmo through Tvořihráz and via Plaveč to Hluboké Mašůvky. The approximately 45-kilometre-long Cyklookruh Mikroregionem Moravia also passes through Tvořihráz, partly on paved roads and partly on nature trails. On its section in the Znojmo region, the Mlynářská stezka also runs through Tvořihráz.

Culture and History

The small château with its farmyard in Tvořihráz was originally a fortress, which the Znojmo Dominicans converted into their summer residence at the end of the 17th century. Sunday services are still held today in the Chapel of Saint Dominic near the château in Tvořihráz. Extensive wine cellars were built on the château grounds in 1694; for a long time, sacramental wine was produced there and transported to all Dominican monasteries in the country.

Further historical testimonies can be found in various parts of the village: The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is designated as a cultural monument in Tvořihráz. The Loucký mlýn mill hamlet on the Jevišovka is one of the other sights and monuments in Tvořihráz. The wayside shrine on the road to Horní Dunajovice is also designated as a cultural monument in Tvořihráz.
