Starovičky: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Starovičky combines a historic landmark with living regional culture, a Way of the Cross, the U Obrázku lookout tower, and events focused on wine and folk traditions. The Church of St. Catherine, the most important historic monument and a landmark of Starovičky, stands in the village. It dates from the 15th century, and its form is reminiscent of single-nave Romanesque churches. Starovičky belongs to the Hanácké Slovácko region, represented here by a southern variant of the Haná-Slovak traditional costume.

Culture

The Krojové hody festival in Starovičky takes place on the fourth Saturday and Sunday in July. The Hody programme includes a festive procession of the Stárci and the costumed Chasa through the village, followed by an evening Hody celebration.

Landscape

The Way of the Cross consists of 14 stations in the form of crosses made from steel profiles. The Way of the Cross project of P. Václav Drbola was created near historic stone wayside shrines dating from the 15th century and was intended to connect them with the U Obrázku lookout tower.

The present-day U Obrázku lookout tower was built on the site of the former Vyhlídka U Obrázku lookout and was approved for use on 11 December 2020. The lookout tower includes a covered shelter with seating. From there, visitors enjoy an unobstructed view of the Pavlov Hills, the Pálava Lakes, and the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area.

There is an information board and seating at the wayside shrines near Starovičky.

Events

During the 9th pilgrimage on foot, a prayer in the cemetery is followed by a walk to the Way of the Cross, a Mass in the church at 4 p.m., and then a gathering at the parish house. Zabíjačka s vinaři is one of two regularly held events focused on wine and folk traditions organised by the Starovičky Winemakers' Association.

Cuisine

The café at the Lavandia Lavender Farm serves homemade lavender lemonade, selected coffee, cakes, and ice cream. The Lavandia Lavender Farm welcomes cyclists and provides bicycle racks in the lavender field.
