Skalka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Houses

Skalka combines a distinctive local craft tradition with a natural monument on the eastern edge of the village, winegrowing and traditional festivals. The name of the village also refers to a striking landscape feature: it is derived from a sandstone rock rising 308 m above sea level.

Culture

In Skalka, the traditional decoration of Easter eggs using the local scratching technique known as “rýsování” is preserved. The coloured layer is scraped away with a special engraving tool until the white surface is revealed.

The Chapel of Saint Joseph was consecrated in 1907. Its surroundings include a paved forecourt, a small car park and landscaped green areas. The Hodky festival in Skalka, held at the end of July, includes a festive mass there. In the evening, the celebrations continue with a dance evening at the Výletiště open-air cultural venue.

Nature

Hošťálka lies on the eastern edge of Skalka and was designated a natural monument in 1949. The natural monument protects a site where the large-flowered pasque flower grows; Hošťálka is also home to an abundant population of this plant.

Wine

Vinné sklepy Skalák s.r.o. has a tasting room for 50 people. The company offers guided wine tastings as well as tours of the winery.

Getting Around

On the Kyjov Wine Trail, the sandstone rock above Skalka is one of the listed sights. The route partly follows field roads of varying quality; a cross bike is recommended for this reason.
