Rudlice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rudlice is a place shaped by history, nature, and examples of traditional craftsmanship.

Nature and Landscape

Rudlice is located in the Jevišovka Nature Park (“Přírodní park Jevišovka”), beside a stream in a valley with forests and fruit trees. The protected Rudlické kopce area encompasses grass- and herb-rich communities with steppe elements, as well as protected plant and animal species.

History and Craftsmanship

The first written mention of Rudlice dates back to 1365. In 1821, Rudlice was a center of the last peasant uprising in the Bohemian lands. One hundred years later, the people of Rudlice honored the memory of the leaders of the 1821 peasant uprising with a monument dating from 1921.

A smelting works once stood at the site now known as Jelínkův mlýn – Šuškovec. Before its reconstruction, the former Šmídlův mlýn was used as a water-powered forge, with water wheels driving the smiths’ hammers.

On the southeast-facing gable of Šmídlův mlýn, a round al-secco painting depicting two blacksmiths at an anvil and bearing the year 1756 is painted on the dry, partially flaked lime plaster. The bell tower of Rudlice is an important historic building of folk architecture.

Hiking and Cycling

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the southern edge of Rudlice. Cycle Route 481 runs from Znojmo via Přímětice, Hluboké Mašůvky, Plaveč, Rudlice, Vevčice, and Černín to Jevišovice.

The cycling tour “Through the Picturesque Region Around Jevišovice” passes through Vevčice and Rudlice; iron ore was once mined in the surrounding area.
