Rosice U Brna – Castle History, Trails and Local Traditions

Zámek Rosice Castle is situated on a hill above the confluence of the Bobrava and the Říčanský potok stream. It was created around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries by rebuilding a Gothic castle.

Culture and History

The visitor route at Zámek Rosice comprises 21 rooms with richly decorated stucco ceilings, decorative wall paintings, ceilings with Renaissance decoration, period furnishings, paintings, hunting trophies, crockery and other historical everyday objects. Zámek Rosice Castle is listed as a cultural monument and possesses a rare ensemble of Renaissance and Baroque stucco ceilings.

The Včelařské muzeum has a permanent exhibition and a library belonging to the Czech Beekeepers' Association. It also includes a 19,000 m² open-air museum with modern and historic apiaries; the museum is currently being renovated.

The visitor attractions at Zámek Rosice Castle include an atomic shelter built in 1965. The Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice is a Baroque chapel with a triangular floor plan and a crypt, and is considered a historic, symbolic landmark of Rosice.

A lime-tree avenue with trees between 80 and 190 years old leads to it; alongside it runs a Stations of the Cross dating from 1773, with 12 stone wayside shrines. The Kamenný most crosses the Bobrava River, is cut into the rocky bank and is considered a structural engineering feature in the Czech Republic. The Church of sv. Martina has a barrel-vaulted nave with lunettes.

Trails and Landscape

The Naučná stezka Mizející krajina? connects Rosice with Ostrovačice and runs along an approximately 3.5-kilometre route through fields on a green-marked hiking trail. It offers a viewing platform over a former pond, a gate at the cadastral boundary and a resting place by the stream next to a covered bridge.

The Naučná stezka Rosickou historií offers two circular routes with 12 information panels about Rosice's historic sights, architecture, personalities and local traditions. In the Rosická obora, remnants of Rosice's historic water supply system have survived to this day, including several air shafts and a Haltýř, where water was collected.

Water and Leisure

The grounds of Koupaliště Zátoka Rosice include a beach volleyball court and a pétanque court. Koupaliště Zátoka Rosice purifies its water biologically using a special substrate made from dolomite limestone. Rosické hody is a revived folk and festival tradition. At Rosické hody in 2025, there was a procession in traditional costumes from the castle courtyard, as well as a blessing in the Church of sv. Martina.
