Popovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In 1048, Prince Břetislav I donated Popovice to the Benedictines for the foundation of Rajhrad Monastery.

History and Archaeology

The finds around Popovice also date back a long way. Flint tools, stone axes, as well as Neolithic potsherds and vessels were found at U Chebzů. Human skeletal remains dating from the Neolithic period, between 4500 and 2000 BC, were discovered at Nívky. They included a necklace made of fired clay beads painted with blue eyes.

The bell tower in Popovice houses a painting of the Visitation of Mary, painted by the Rajhrad Benedictine monk Vojtěch Slouk. The memorial to those who fell in the First World War commemorates more recent history. It is considered the oldest memorial in the entire microregion and was consecrated in 1920 by Abbot Prokop Šup.

Landscape and Nature

The Pastvisko Reservoir has a dual purpose: it is used by the local angling association for fish breeding and provides a habitat for many animal species, particularly amphibians. The Farářka wetland is also home to animal species protected under Czech law.

Routes around Popovice

The Rajhradsko educational trail passes through Popovice. Its first section, 15.7 km long, runs through Rajhrad, Popovice and Holasice. The route of the Brno Wine Cycling Trails also passes near Popovice.

For walks in the Rajhradská bažantnice pheasantry, the main walking route is marked on the trees with yellow arrows.

Railways and Regional Connections

A railway stop was established in Popovice in 1914. Popovice can be reached by train from Brno.
