Níhov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Níhov combines a small-village history with a water landscape, marked hiking trails and unusual traces of the past. Between ponds, valleys and the railway line, the very different facets of the place lie close together.

Water and Nature

Níhovský rybník, also known locally as Hájenka, covers 7 hectares and is the largest body of water in the Tišnovsko region. It has attracted tourists since the First Republic and is often used for swimming and recreation. The quiet section of Níhovský rybník is a breeding habitat for waterfowl.

The Studánka Dlaně spring is also located near Níhov. It provides drinking water at the transition between pasture, field and forest. A sculpture of hands, from which water flows, stands above the spring.

Hiking Trails and Valleys

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the railway station in Dolní Loučky through the Blahoňůvka valley to Níhov, then continues along the ponds through the Halda Valley, via Vidonín and the Libochůvka valley, to the trail junction in the settlement of Habří. A green-marked hiking trail connects Tišnov with Níhov and continues along the ponds to Velká Bíteš.

The 4.3-kilometre route “Údolím říčky Haldy” begins at Níhov railway station and follows the Halda stream downstream along an unmarked path that runs mostly through the forest. Several fords must be crossed, and numerous interesting rock formations can also be seen.

The Halda Valley is home to a breeding site of the Eurasian eagle-owl. The gorge of the Halda Valley contains the remains of the foundations of wooden buildings.

History and Culture

The chapel dedicated to Saint Wenceslas on the village square in Níhov was built by the residents in 1872 and reconstructed again in 2016. The local history also includes the railway tunnels: the third railway tunnel before Níhov is 531 metres long. During the Second World War, the tunnels near Níhov were used as factories where fuselages and wings for Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter aircraft were manufactured.

The Saint Wenceslas pilgrimage in Níhov on 1 October was regarded as a religious, gastronomic and historical folk tradition event and included a game-meat festival.
