Loděnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Loděnice combines remarkable religious buildings with an extensive cycle route through the South Moravian landscape. In particular, the parish church of St Margaret, the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, and the local expiation or reconciliation stone provide the village with specific historical and cultural points of reference.

Culture and History

The parish church of St Margaret is a Gothic brick building. It was constructed from the 1430s onwards in place of an earlier fortified church whose history dates back to the years 1210 to 1240. During the rebuilding, the chancel was constructed first, followed later by the three-nave body of the church; the main nave was vaulted around 1504.

The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands on the village square opposite House No. 5. Its almost square structure is made of stone and brick, and the gabled roof is covered with slate slabs. A tower with an onion-shaped dome rises above it; the year 1841 is displayed above the entrance portal. Inside are a stone altar, a polychrome statue of St John of Nepomuk, wall paintings, and medallions depicting the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child and St Anne.

The statue of St John of Nepomuk is also part of the local tradition: it originally stood on a bridge and is now located on a stone well. The expiation or reconciliation stone in Loděnice is a sandstone block with a roughly executed bas-relief in the shape of a one-armed cross.

Cycle Route and Landscape

The 84-kilometre Živé pomezí Krumlovsko–Jevišovicko cycle route begins in Loděnice. It is not laid out as a circular route and ends in Bítov. It is also connected to the Damnice–Pravlov section of the Znojemská vinařská stezka.

The route runs as a green corridor and largely avoids heavily trafficked roads. It passes through a hilly landscape with occasional unexpected views across the open countryside. Most of it lies in an agricultural area, interspersed with occasional woodland.
