The Sutny archaeological site is located in the cadastral area of Kyjovice, on a gentle rise north of a reservoir. As a significant archaeological site in UAN I category, Sutny was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. Systematic archaeological research has been conducted at this multi-period site since 1964.
Culture and Archaeology
The Sutny rondel, associated with the culture of Moravian painted pottery, consists of a ditch and several palisade ditches inside and outside the ditch. The excavated areas of Těšetice-Kyjovice “Sutny”, together with the Těšetice “Vinohrady” area, form the largest known Hallstatt-period settlement complex. The Těšetice-Kyjovice rondel was the first extensively researched example of its kind in Central Europe.
The first written mention of Kyjovice dates from 1275. The Těšetice-Kyjovice archaeological site lies on the edge of the Tvořihrážský Forest.
