Heroltice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Heroltice lies above the Svratka Valley south of Tišnov. The Lažánecko-Heroltice Karst extends between the village and the valley of the Bílý potok.

Nature

At the site of Na bílé near Heroltice, the Pejškovský potok resurfaces; however, most of the karst spaces in this area are practically inaccessible. The Na Bílém spring supplies Tišnov and Heroltice with water and emerges from the rock without freezing.

In 1999, the Heroltický potok was reshaped with pools, wetlands and three ponds, creating a local biocentre. Various amphibian species and the pond mussel occur in the biocentre on the Heroltický potok. Birds that can be observed there include mallards, grey herons, reed warblers and kingfishers.

Ten important landscape elements (VKPs) are registered in the cadastral area of Heroltice. They are of particular importance for protecting biodiversity, including protected and endangered plant and animal species. Protected plants found there include purple cyclamen, fringed gentian and white helleborine, an orchid. Rare animal species in Heroltice include fire salamanders, smooth snakes, praying mantises, kingfishers and red-backed shrikes.

History and Village Character

The first references to Heroltice date from 1316; at that time, the knight Herult (Herolt) of Heroltice settled on Horka Hill, where a fortress stood.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of the village, was built in 1810. A white stone memorial plaque is located in a niche to the right of the chapel entrance.

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village green in Heroltice. The municipality of Heroltice had the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk erected in 1907 from the legacy of Tomáš Trtílek, who came from Heroltice.

Surroundings

In the immediate vicinity of Heroltice is the stone-built Studánka U Sovy spring, with a statue of an owl in a niche; it was built in 2008. Near Heroltice, Ostrov is located by Šárka, at the former site of the Rudomlýn mill. The mill, also known as Puchverk or Stoupa, was used there from 1536 to crush ore.

Near Heroltice, by Pravková, lies the nearly 20-hectare Slunná primeval forest, consisting predominantly of beech forest. A bench on the edge of Obceny Forest offers views towards Veverská Bítýška and Veveří Castle above it.

Near Heroltice is Čertova hráz, the remains of a 32-metre-long stone dam in the valley of the Pejškovský potok. Further along the valley there is a rest and refreshment area for pedestrians and cyclists.

Events

Every year, Heroltice hosts, among other events, a carnival, a festival welcoming spring, a parish festival under the maypole, a children's summer cinema, a kite festival and a lantern procession.
