Temelín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Temelín combines tangible evidence of rural architecture with the history and technology surrounding the nuclear power plant. There are also designated routes to the facility, as well as terrain points and excursion destinations in the nearby and wider regional surroundings.

Culture and History

Vysoký Hrádek originated as a manor farm built by the Lords of Březí and was later expanded into a fortress. During the rule of Václav Malovec, the fortress was transformed into a small château. Following extensive structural reconstruction, Vysoký Hrádek once again opened to the public in October 1997 as the information centre of the Temelín nuclear power plant.

Another architectural detail can be found at the rural farmstead Temelín 13 on the southern side of the elongated village square. The granary and the residential building face the village square; they are separated from each other by a stucco-decorated perimeter wall with a gate and a wicket gate. The farmstead also includes a detached granary opposite the residential building.

Experiences and Routes

The ReakTour virtual tour uses virtual-reality headsets to provide insights into secured areas of the Temelín nuclear power plant. The areas shown include the reactor, the cooling tower and the unit control rooms.

Vysoký Hrádek can be reached from Hluboká nad Vltavou via Road 105; the route is 16.7 km long. Free parking spaces are available directly at the visitor centre. The Vysoký Hrádek visitor centre can also be reached by bus to the “Březí u Týna, JE” stop.

A cycle connection to the Temelín nuclear power plant is also designated: the cycle route leads from Purkarec via cycle routes CT 1091 and CT 1095 and onwards through Býšov to the facility.

Landscape and Regional Surroundings

Several designated terrain points are located in the immediate surroundings of Temelín. Zdoba is a mountain, while Za Humny in Temelín and Kometa in Všemyslice-Všeteč are hills.

The wider regional surroundings of Temelín include Hrad Zvíkov Castle and the terrain point Mužský, recorded as a mountain. The church of Svatý Jan and another church also named Svatý Jan are likewise located in this wider regional area.
