In Suchdol nad Lužnicí, landscapes of sand and water meet paths along the Lužnice and a rich local history. This character is particularly evident in the Pískovna areas, the cycle connections and the parish church Kostel sv. Mikuláše.

Nature

East of Suchdol nad Lužnicí, near Františkov, a district of the town of Suchdol nad Lužnicí, lies the 7.5-hectare Pískovna u Dračice natural monument. The area is predominantly surrounded by pine and spruce trees, while its side areas are covered with vegetation. It is bordered by roads, pastures and the gravel-sand terraces of the Dračice stream along its left bank.

At Pískovna u Dračice, an information board provides details about the area, its inhabitants and the rules of conduct for visitors. The area is also part of the Třeboňsko bird protection area.

Water and Paths

The lakes of Pískovna Tušť were created by sand extraction and are now used mainly for summer recreation, swimming and fishing. Pískovna Tušť belongs to the Lužnice 10B 421 042 fishing district. The Velká pískovna in this area can be reached from Suchdol nad Lužnicí by car and by bicycle.

Several routes also pass through or lead to Suchdol nad Lužnicí. The 21.5 km CC Lužnice cycle route runs from České Velenice to Klikov via Suchdol nad Lužnicí, along the eastern edge of the town beside the left bank of the Lužnice and a side arm. The 9.8 km thematic Paměti Vitorazska cycle route leads from Dvory nad Lužnicí via Hrdlořezy and Tři Facky to Suchdol nad Lužnicí. In Suchdol nad Lužnicí, its section behind the church and the railway crossing joins the main CC Lužnice route.

The traditionally organised Odemykání Lužnice tour starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Suchdol water base near the Klikov bridge and includes a river trip on the Lužnice starting from Suchdol nad Lužnicí.

Culture and History

The parish church Kostel sv. Mikuláše was founded in Gothic form in 1363, rebuilt after 1440 and expanded in 1820 by extending the nave and adding a tower. During the day, the church is accessible from the main entrance to the last benches at the back.
